Welcome to the TJSKA Blogger

Dear Karate-ka,

I've created a blog page in order that you can raise subjects & questions you have about karate.
You may come & go as you please without having to go through me & talk amongst yourselves about anything to do with your training, experiences in karate & your hopes for the future i.e. what you expect to achieve etc
I hope it proves successful & useful to you all.
Happy Blogging,

Oss in Karate-do,

Terry

Kara-te, the Art of Empty Hand fight, is not only about punching, kicking & striking!?

Modern day karate originated in Okinawa - Okinawa-Te. One style was practiced in the village of Shuri which eventually became Shotokan, the other in Naha which became Goju-ryu. That is it!! There are only TWO types of karate in the world! Any other form is a mere derivative or watered down version of the original forms. QED?

Funakoshi Sensei

.....used to say "Three years, one kata!!" That was the length of time he thought you should practice a kata until you became proficient at it. Practicing in the back garden of your master from midnight till 3am every night of the week for three years. Some of my students are lucky if they practice their kata's once a week! :-)
